How to Remove Facebook Timeline

Facebook users are often dissatisfied with it due to its controversial activities. One of them is Facebook timeline. Probably this is the most important issue at present for Facebook users. 

Timeline is a new kind of profile that lets you highlight the photos, posts and life events that help you tell your story. If you activate timeline then you'll have 7 days to preview what's there now. This gives you a chance to add or hide whatever you want before anyone else sees it. 

If you activate timeline once then there is no official way to deactivate it! Many users find it too complex as well as boring. 

If you wanna change back to the old style profile or if you haven't got Timeline yet, but just wanna see your friend's Timeline pages in the old style profile format, this guide is for you.

If you visit a personal Facebook Timeline with IE 7 then you will be shown old style profile page for that person. Because FB haven't created any version of timeline that is compatible with IE 7. 

But IE7 is no longer using by the users due to its several limitations and security issues. Now follow the steps below for your browser:

Google Chrome

To change Google Chrome's User Agent you first need to download the appropriate file below, depending on what Operating System you are using. The content of the file is basically the command listed below in the pale blue box. 

Chrome on Windows Vista & 7

If you are using Windows Vista or 7 the command in the file that will run Chrome with IE7 as the user agent is as follows : 

"%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --user-agent="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)"

1. Download (Right Click on the link, select Save link as... and save the .bat file to your Desktop)
2. Then Install the F.B. Purity browser extension, as it will fix a lot of the display glitches that will occur when you have your browser set to impersonate IE7.
3. Close all running Chrome browser Windows and Tabs, then click the previously downloaded .bat file and it will run Chrome with IE7 as its user agent.
4. Now visit a personal Timeline page and you will see that it is now displayed as a normal, old style profile page. If at any point, you wanna go back to using the normal User Agent, just close all Chrome windows and then open Chrome using your usual Chrome Icon, instead of the Bat file.

Chrome on Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP the command in the file to start Chrome with IE7 as the UserAgent is as follows:

Firefox on Windows, Mac or Linux
Its easy to switch Firefox's User Agent to IE7, the steps are as follows

1. Install the "User Agent Switcher" Extension from addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/
2. Install the F.B. Purity browser extension, as it will fix most of the display glitches that occur when you switch the browser's User Agent to IE7, and it also has a lot of other cool and useful features for customising Facebook.
3. Go to Firefox's "Tools/User Agent Switcher/Internet Explorer" menu and select "Internet Explorer 7" 
4. Now go and view a personal Timeline page, it will be displayed in the old Profile format. BTW If you want to at any point switch the User Agent back to normal, just set the User Agent to "Default User Agent" or else just disable the "User Agent Switcher" extension.

Safari on Mac & Windows

1. Install the F.B. Purity browser extension, this will fix most of the display glitches that occur on Facebook when you use the IE7 User Agent, and it also has a lot of other cool and useful features for customising Facebook.
2. To switch the User Agent in Safari, you need to first go into the "Preferences" menu, select "Advanced", then tick the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" option, then exit the preferences menu.
3. Now click the page icon menu (next to the cog wheel icon) then select the develop/user agent menu, there you can choose the useragent you wish to use for the current website you are viewing. Select Internet Explorer 7. 
4. Now view any personal Facebook Timeline page and it will be displayed in the old style Profile format.

N.B. If you want to restore your User Agent to normal in Safari then just follow Steps 1 and 2 again, but this time select the "Default" user agent

Opera on Windows, Mac or Linux

1. Install the FB Purity browser extension, which will fix some of the display problems that arise when you set your browser to impersonate IE7, it also gives you lots of options for hiding spam and other news stories and facebook features that you dont want to see.
2. To set the custom user agent in Opera, enter "opera:config#ISP|Id" into the url/address bar, then enter the Custom User Agent string "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)" and click "Save" 
3. Restart your browser and view your profile page, or any other personal Timeline profile page, and it will display it in the old Profile format

N.B. If you wanna restore your User Agent to normal in Opera, just follow the first part of step 1 again, and then click the "Default" button then click "Save"

How to Delete Facebook Account?

In my previous post I showed how to deactivate the Facebook account. A person normally deactivate Facebook when the situation is not very serious. But when the situation gets worst and the user is fully fed up with it, then deleting the account is the final solution.

So in this post I am gonna show you how to delete Facebook permanently. 

To delete your Facebook account, you can simply follow the Facebook's own help page.

1. First, log in to your Facebook Account

3. Now hit on Delete My Account option
4. A windows may appear and ask you to enter your password and captcha. Fill them and confirm the deletion process.

How to Deactivate Facebook Account?

Facebook users may often face several problems. In most of the cases the issue is privacy. To most of the users Facebook account is very important. As a result neither they can delete it nor keep it. In this situation Facebook provides a facility to deactivate the account temporarily. 

When you deactivate your account, your profile and all information associated with it disappears from the Facebook immediately. People on Facebook will not be able to find or view any of your information.

Windows Experience Index: Assess your PC Performance

If you use Windows Vista, 7 or 8 then you will be able to rate your computer using Windows Experience Index. Windows has its own rating system to estimate computer's capacity or performance. 

Computer users normally rate a computer by analyzing its configuration. For example we can estimate a computer's performance by its RAM, Main Board, Processor etc. A common rating system is the power of processor.

Often we use Pentium IV, Dual Core, Core 2 Duo PC to say a computer's performance. But processor is not everything. A computer's performance also depends on RAM, Hard Disk, Graphics etc. 

In windows operating systems (Vista, 7 and 8) there is a rating system. It is know as Windows Experience Index. Here the scale is 1 to 7.9 that means the minimum score is 1 and maximum is 7.9.

To run the assessment all you need to do is just right click on the Computer and select properties. Now you will see the system section. And here you will find an option named Windows Experience Index. Click on it. And then you will see the assessment option. After clicking the Run the Assessment option the process will begin. It takes 4 to 6 minutes depends on your computer's configuration. During the rating your screen brightness may increase or decrease. But don't be panic as it is usual. 

If your score is 3 then your PC is perfect to run Vista, 7 or 8. But Microsoft declared that a computer with rating point 5 will be ideal to get full performance of the operating system. 

Another thing you should consider is that, the rating score is determined by lowest sub score. So whether your score is 3 or 4 it doesn't mean that your PC is worth of that score. In most cases rating score is very low due to the graphics performance. In that case you can use an external graphics card to improve your computer performance. 

Google +: What is +1 button?

When you browse net and read various articles then you might see the Tweet, Facebook like, Stumble Upon button after the post. But at present time you may see another button with other sharing buttons. This is  +1  button. 

The +1 button is nothing but an alternative to Facebook like button. But don't think it just like Facebook like button. It is something more than Facebook like button. 

When you +1 something actually you're doing many things. Give a   +1   to a post means you're recommending this post on Google Search, Sharing with your friends in your Google + Circle and most importantly you're saving the page in your   +1   list. 

In order to use the Google +1 button, you must have a Google Account. And the account should be visible to public. If you don't set your profile publicly visible then you will not be able to see and use  +1  button. 

Sometimes you may wanna save a copy of your favourite web page. But you don't need to do so if you use +1. If you see a  +1  button in that web page then just give a  +1  and you will find this page in your Google + profile at the  +1  list!

Turn off Your Monitor by Double Click!

Often we need to download a large file from internet and remain our system on without using it. In that case a person don't need to use the monitor at all. 

Sometimes we need to turn on or off the monitor again and again. And certainly this detrimental both for the power button of the monitor and for monitor itself. As a result some people don't turn off the monitor. 

But all of us know that CRT monitor consumes a huge amount of power. 

If you need to turn on and off your monitor again and again then don't do it with power button. There is a better option available for you. You can turn off your monitor just by a small .exe file (22 KB)

After downloading the file you need to extract it. Now keep the file in place you think handy. You can place it in the desktop. Or if you use Windows or 8 then right click on this file and select pin to task bar. 

If the file placed in desktop then you can turn off monitor by Double Click. But if it is placed in task bar then you can do it only by a single click!! 

Audio, Video & Text Chat by Google Talk

People of current world heavily depend on internet chatting both for communication and entertainment purpose. There are millions of people always chatting around the world. And thousands of chatting software are also serving them. 

Probably most of the users use Facebook chat to talk with friends. And there are lots of other services available. Such as Yahoo Messenger, Skype, MSN, ooVoo, Pidgin, Nimbuzz and so many. 

But today I am gonna talk about Google Talk (Gtalk) - this is my personal choice. 

This is a very light and fast instant messaging software. Its size is only 1.5 MB. You can both perform audio and text chat. And if you wanna make a video call from it then you have install an additional plugin for it.  

Within a small size program you will find all the necessary options you may need. You can set you status, status message, change font and font size, colors, set image, block irritating persons etc. 

You can also send files by Google Talk to your friends. To whom you wanna send any file must be online. Offline friends can't be sent files. The procedure to send file is shown below with image:

Activate Windows 8 Preview by Windows Update!

Microsoft declared that Windows 8 Developer Preview will be expired on March 11, 2012. And when it will expire, the computers with Windows 8 Developer Preview installed will restart every 2 hours!

So there are two options available for users. They can either download Windows 8 Consumer Preview or they can use their previous windows instead of Windows 8.

But there is another options available for Windows 8 users! Ya I am talking about activating it. There are lots of options available for activation. Some of them are valid some are invalid. Some are working and some are non working. 

But, do you know that you can easily validate your developer preview version in a legal way. Microsoft released an update for windows 8 a few days ago. This update is very small. 

Activation Method: 

1. Open Control Panel
2. Go to the Windows Update
3. Click on available updates link
4. Now search for an update named Update for Windows 8 Developer Preview (KB2671501)
5. And install it.

If you have any difficulty to find it then install all updates. Your windows will be activated automatically after restarting your PC. 

If you wanna make sure that your windows is activated then make a right click on Computer and click on View details in Windows Activation. And you will see the following window:

Use Snipping Tool to Take Screen Shots!

If you're using Windows 7 or Windows 8 Preview then you've snipping tool provided with the windows. You can use Snipping Tool to take a screen shot, or snip, of any object on your screen, and then you can make little change, mark, save and email it to someone. 

You can capture the following types of snips:

• Free-form Snip:  Draw a free-form shape around an object.
• Rectangular Snip:  Drag the cursor around an object to form a rectangle.
• Window Snip:  This option will allow you to capture the the full window. 
• Full-screen Snip:  This will allow you to capture the entire screen. 

You will find the snip tool in the program list. Go to the start menu and type snip. Then it will appear in the list. 

You can also make a handy shortcut of it. Just right click on the snipping tool and select Pin to Taskbar. 

Funny Trick: If you need to reduce the size of a large image then you can just take the screenshot of that image. For example if your image is 3 or 4 MB in size, you can reduce it to 40 to 50 KB by taking a screen shot using snipping tool.  

Common File Types with Extensions

Each and every file has an extension. A file extension or a file name extension is the suffix at the end of a file name that indicates what kind of file it is. For example, a JPEG image file   has an extension like .jpg. Similarly, you can identify a file as text file if it has an extension like .txt.   

If you don't see an extension after the file name then you should turn on a setting. Just double click on My Computer then go to the Folder options. Now click on the View tab. After 8 or 9 options you will find an option named hide extensions for known file types. Just turn it off. And from now you will be able to see the file extensions of any files.
